Meet Our TEam

Dr. James Duncan

Dr. Duncan serves as the president of the Center for ESG and Sustainability. He has 40 years of combined experience at all levels of management. In addition to 25 years as Chief Analyst building teams to monitor and predict financial market shifts for Fortune 500 companies, Dr. Duncan has a broad background in science, engineering, and the arts. He spent 20 years as design engineer and troubleshooter for new process development, construction, and operations, where he produced several patented processes. He founded and was CEO of a multinational company that produced high performance fuel additives and specialty lubricants. Some of his more notable clients were several Formula I teams. In 1995 he sold his interests in the company and returned to the academic world as a professor of undergraduate and graduate chemistry, mathematics, physics, and nutritional biochemistry. In 1998, he joined the then infant beginnings of economic thermodynamics where he led successful efforts to design and build financial data models for predictive analytics. Dr Duncan has spoken to audiences in several countries and across the U.S. on a wealth of topics including risk mitigation, predictive analytics, and, more importantly, applying meteorologic and climatic data to understand and mitigate dynamic shifts in market fundamentals. He is a featured and popular keynote speaker at numerous conferences and symposiums year-round.

Jack Belcher

Jack Belcher serves as the vice president of the Center for ESG and Sustainability. He has over 30 years of experience in sustainable development and public policy. Mr. Belcher advises private and public sector entities on ESG and climate-related disclosure, standardized sustainability practices and climate risk assessment and resilience. He serves as a principal at Cornerstone Government Affairs, Inc., a bipartisan, professional consulting firm with a specialty in ESG and sustainability planning. Mr. Belcher previously served as a regulatory affairs and policy manager for Shell North America’s Exploration & Production Division, and staff director for the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin and is TCFD certified by the Climate Disclosure Standards Board and the Sustainable Accounting Standards Board. 

Brent Greenfield

Brent Greenfield serves as the secretary of the Center for ESG and Sustainability. Mr. Greenfield advises clients on ESG program development and implementation, including through assistance with current state assessments, peer benchmarking analysis, and materiality determinations. Mr. Greenfield also serves as vice president and counsel at Cornerstone Government Affairs, Inc., a bipartisan, professional consulting firm with a specialty in ESG and sustainability planning. His professional and public policy experience includes positions with HBW Resources, the Office of Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin J. Martin, White House Office of Counsel to the President, and Bush for President 2000 campaign. Mr. Greenfield received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law and Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin.

Bethany Andell

As CEO of Savage Brands, Bethany believes in unleashing the inherent good in all companies. She is passionate about connecting business leaders to their core purpose, ensuring that their companies are culturally aligned and that their brands have meaning. In her book, Get Your Head Out of Your Bottom Line: And Build Your Brand on Purpose, Andell, along with co-author Jackie Dryden, help executive teams shift their focus from solely improving the bottom line to instead prioritize the company’s long-term health, culture and non-monetary impact on the world. In 2021 Bethany received her ESG Certification from the Energy Workforce & Technology Council and currently serves on the Council’s ESG Committee. Bethany earned her degree from the University of Arizona and her MBA from Rice Business. She served two terms on the Rice Business Alumni Association Board, including serving as President, and was the recipient of the inaugural Rice Alumni Industry Excellence Award in Consulting. Bethany is an active member of Vistage, Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO) and a founding member of the Conscious Capitalism chapter in Houston.


Roy Harstein

Roy Harstein has been driven to help oil and gas companies find value in “doing the right things” and in doing so demonstrate that natural gas is an important part of our energy future. He pioneered the execution of the first U.S. “certified gas” transaction, led companies to achieve “Freshwater Neutral”, established methane management initiatives for production operations and chaired the first Group of Experts on Methane Emissions for the International Gas Union. He leads Responsible Energy Solutions to deliver Emissions Reduction Strategy as well as independent certification assessments for the Equitable Origin EO100 and MiQ responsible gas standards and development of ESG strategy for oil and gas companies across the value chain. 

Hartstein has spoken frequently on resource development including presentations on certified gas, water management and methane emissions management. Tom McNulty has 26 years of experience working across the entire energy value chain. He draws on a rare combination of industry, Wall Street, consulting, and government experience to provide his clients with transaction, commercial analytics, litigation, and valuation opinion services. Tom is a nationally recognized energy industry expert, and has appeared on CNBC, Fox Business, NTD, and Bloomberg TV. As an advisor, and in his corporate career, Tom has delivered more than $56 billion in energy-related transaction, valuation, restructuring, and litigation projects. He has also advised on, or executed, $14 billion in M&A and principal investment deals, and executed or valued more than $15 billion notional in derivative instruments. He sits on the Advisory Board of the Center for ESG and Sustainability. 

Geir Vollsæter

Senior Consultant

  

Geir Vollsæter has more than two decades of experience in energy, climate and environmental matters, including carbon management strategy and ESG. His background includes work in waste to energy, oil and gas, energy intensive industries and renewables, as well as the European and global policy arenas. 

Geir has served on the executive boards of many companies over the last 20 years and participates in government and industry led committees and task forces tackling the international challenges of technology development, environment and regulation within energy intensive industries.  Geir has chaired several government mandated task forces and committees such as Process 21 for CO2 capture and storage and recently concluded work to support the EU EESC’s Opinion on critical raw materials.
